We have been walking in Africa for more than three decades and we have the sand in our boots to prove it. We offer scheduled walks to the most popular routes, but we also customise special routes to lesser-known areas for small groups. We ourselves are passionate African walkers and this is what inspires travellers to choose Walk In Africa to assist them with their walking holidays.
We are based in Africa and our extensive experience exploring, walking, tracking and hiking in Africa ensures that we are the best choice to arrange your walking holiday in Africa. We believe that the best way to experience Africa is to Walk in Africa.
A walking holiday in Africa allows you to savour the beauty and spirit of the continent.
It encourages interaction with local people, insights into the ecology and allows you to better appreciate your destination at a more relaxed pace.

Social & Environmental Contribution
We adhere to the Zulu philosophy expressed in the phrase “umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu”, which means that a person is a person through other persons. And we therefore believe that it is correct for us to give back to those in our greater community who need assistance. To these ends we have given our time for charity walks supporting education in poor rural communities, rural water supply and wildlife conservation.
We are actively involved in training guides from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, so that they can be lifted out of poverty and can become the next generation of exceptional guides.
We firmly believe that the future wellbeing of our natural environment and wilderness areas is dependent on the youth. It is only through the education and participation of the youth that we can hope to conserve these vulnerable areas. Unfortunately in South Africa many young people from impoverished urban communities do not ever get an opportunity to experience the natural environment.
It is for this reason that we actively support the Cape Town Environmental Education Trust (CTEET) (cteet.co.za) which provides education, training, outdoor experiences and conservation initiatives to young people from the most disadvantaged communities in Cape Town.
Every year our director spends several weeks training young people in CTEET’s Environmental Learnership programme and a portion of your booking goes directly (via our independent accountants) to supporting CTEET’s “Changing lives through nature” programme (http://changinglivesthroughnature.co.za/). This initiative offers children from Cape Town’s poorest communities a three-day nature camp where they can escape from their daily life of poverty and exposure to gangsterism to develop a greater appreciation and passion for the outdoors. Here they learn to appreciate nature, each other and themselves and develop an understanding of the role that they can play in protecting our planet and our natural heritage.
In addition to the financial contribution that we make to this admirable social and environmental programme, we also get actively involved by taking groups of these future conservationists on hikes and mentoring them.
Just wanted to thanks you all for making our holiday one of the best we have ever had. I know part of the success is due to team effort but we wanted to thank Steve especially for his wealth of knowledge, attention to detail and ability to put us at ease. We will definitely be back!
The hike has been a lifetime experience enriched by many information about plants, flowers and animals. There Steve showed big flexibility to cover our special curiosity in wine-farming and biology. This made the tour very individual and special.
The walk turned out to be the highlight of our visit to Cape Town - and this is not something we would have attempted on our own. Steve's attention was a major contributing factor to our sense of safety and our enjoyment and we have since recommended him to many people who have visited Cape Town.
For a adventurous, fun, and athletic holiday, this trip was also excellent. 5 days in the most beautiful and challenging nature it was experience which will always be in our minds and our hearts, too. Steve Bolnick was best guide ever what we have encountered in our numerous trips in four continents.
Steve was an exellent guide! Steve´s personality is showing experience from the start. This gives you a possibility to relax and enjoy South Africa from the beginning because you get the feeling you are in good hands. He´s knowlege of geology, plants, animal life and culture was brilliant.
We had an exceptionally good tour with you. It was excellent to be escorted around by someone who is so knowledgeable about not only botany, but also about the areas we toured. The whole thing was great and we have raved to our friends and family over it all, and that very much included your tour.
The walk itself exceeded all of our expectations. I have travelled widely across Europe, Central Asia, North America, North Africa and Australia. In that context I have taken very many tours of varying quality, price and type. None I have taken have done more to enthuse about a region, a country or a people than this particular one.
We all loved it - one of the best walks we have ever done. Steve's care and attention to detail was great. We will definitely recommend it to our friends who are fit and energetic enough to enjoy it.
